The Structural/Maintenance Welder (SMW) program at Advanced Industrial Training is designed to prepare students for careers in welding fabrication, structural repair, and general maintenance across a variety of industrial settings. This intensive program focuses on developing essential welding skills, industry-standard safety practices, and hands-on experience in real-world environments.

Students will gain advanced knowledge and practical training in multiple welding processes and positions, including work performed on ladders, scaffolds, and other elevated or confined areas. Emphasis is placed on safety protocols, proper equipment usage, and situational awareness to reduce risks on the job site.

Key skills and topics covered in the SMW program include:

  • Welding safety and hazard recognition

  • Oxy-fuel cutting and back gouging techniques

  • Interpretation of welding symbols and blueprints

  • Proper use and safety of ladders and scaffolds

  • Electrode selection and machine setup

  • Fabrication methods for structural components

  • Repair and maintenance welding applications

At the conclusion of the WLDG 104 course, students will complete a hands-on welding exam in the SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) process. Those who successfully pass the assessment will receive a Welder Qualification Certificate issued by an AWS Certified Welding Inspector.

Graduates of the Structural/Maintenance Welder program will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and may pursue entry-level employment opportunities as:

  • Structural Welders

  • Maintenance/Repair Welders

  • Welder Helpers

  • Steel Fabricators and related trades
